glass, light, music composed by Vojko Sfiligoj

Beneath heaven's skin, between trickling steps, they float for an instant as atmospheric rain that has disturbed the surface above. They sigh in spellbound subterranean solitude and dream on millennial stories, submerged in secret underground passages. Their silent tales surge upwards through a well, to the surface, to heads bowed above the mirror eye, which know not that the whispering light of the stalactites is concealed immediately behind the wall of the ancient well, right beside the surface in which the sky above is reflected.

The hand blown crystal stalactites, inspiration for which came in Karst caves, are lit with optical fibres, which are led to them from the light source in sheaves of cables. The composer Vojko Sfiligoj created the music especially for this work, at the time of its first installation. Because of the structure of the terrain, the demanding installation was set up in 1999 and was reopened after partial renovation and cleaning in November 2013.
